cannot verify my email to use FaceTime on iPad mini

I set a new apple id for my sons ipadmini Now when i try to access FaceTime it says i have to verify the email but when i click on it an edit takes me to apple to my apple id etc It does not give me a choice to verify. I have checked my recover e mail and nothing there either
